Featured Case Study
Client
W.S. Badger Company
Scope
Creative Direction • Brand Identity • Packaging Systems • Illustration Direction
Badger is a family-owned organic skincare company and Certified B Corp known for its mission-driven approach to natural products. As the company expanded nationally, the brand needed a more cohesive identity system that could scale across retailers, categories, and international markets while preserving the warmth and authenticity that made it distinctive.
The Opportunity
The existing identity and packaging had become fragmented across product lines, limiting shelf recognition and creating inconsistencies across retail, digital, and marketing touchpoints. The goal was to modernize the brand without losing its personality, environmental values, or connection to the founder’s original vision.
The Approach
The rebrand centered around building a scalable visual system rooted in Badger’s heritage.
A custom wordmark and proprietary typeface, Badger Apothecaria, were developed from the founder’s original sketches to create a more refined and recognizable identity. The iconic mascot was evolved into a singular “guardian badger” — reinforcing themes of care, protection, and environmental stewardship.
The packaging system expanded across more than 50 SKUs spanning sun care, baby, outdoor, lip care, and gift sets. Typography, hierarchy, color systems, and layout structures were unified to create stronger consistency at shelf while allowing each category to maintain its own character.
To deepen the storytelling, new wildlife illustrations and ecological themes were introduced across product lines, connecting the brand more directly to conservation and the natural environments that inspired the products.
The work also extended into digital, retail, catalog, video, and launch assets to ensure consistency across every customer touchpoint.
The Outcome
The refreshed identity helped position Badger for broader national and international growth.
Following the rollout, the brand expanded distribution into retailers including Whole Foods, REI, and Target, while increasing cross-category placements beyond core businesses.
The redesign also supported significant ecommerce growth, expansion into Amazon, increased retailer confidence across product lines, and stronger global visibility for the brand.
Most importantly, the new system allowed Badger to scale without losing the personality, warmth, and mission-driven spirit that made the company beloved in the first place.
